Hello! My name is Rowena, I am a Cellist and Yoga Teacher (registered with Yoga Alliance) based in Ewell, Surrey.

Yoga
I taught Hatha & Yin Yoga in Ewell since 2024-25, although I am currently not running any classes while I prepare for a 1-year Master’s degree.
My first experience with Yoga was when I signed up for an asana class at my gym during university. I remember turning up expecting a 1-hour relaxing class, and it turned out to be a very intense 1hr30 Vinyasa Flow class – I have a very vivid memory of my hands sliding all over the gym’s yoga mat, and finding Downward Dog very difficult and not at all restful!
My next experience was a little better. During the first Covid-19 lockdown I downloaded the app ‘DownDog’ (which I still use today and highly recommend for personal practice), and started asana practices in my room, probably only 20-30 minutes at a time, but gradually increasing.
Cut to summer 2023 when – having fallen in love with asana, pranayama and meditation practices – I found myself flying to Rishikesh, India for a month-long 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course, studying Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa yoga at “Vinyasa Yogashala, Rishikesh”.

Music
I grew up surrounded by music, with my parents teaching Piano & Classical Guitar, and found the Cello aged 5 (I had learnt the Violin for a term, however found that I wanted to sit down, and the Cello seemed cool…I know, 5year old logic!).

I quickly discovered I loved playing the Cello, and ended up going to a specialist music school for sixth form, before completing an Undergraduate performance degree in the Cello at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

I’ve performed solo, with chamber groups, and with orchestras, and love the thrill of playing music with others. I had to step back from performing for a couple of years due to a shoulder injury, however I am now preparing to start a Master’s degree in cello performance in September of 2025, and am looking forward to exploring more ways that yoga and music can compliment each other.
Hobbies & other things
I’ve always had rather intense hobbies – I have a great love of all things creative; reading, writing, drawing, painting, photography, crochet…the list goes on. I am also passionate about nature, the environment, and am intent on transforming my room into a jungle with my large collection of houseplants.

My current day-to-day sees me not only teaching Yoga & Cello, but also working part-time as an administrator for a youth orchestra, and as a role-player for university medical students!
Increasingly, I long for ways to tie my different passions together; music, yoga, nature, art. Watch this space…
